NCAA finale

Last night was awesome!  The heat overall was a little slower (6 of the 8 swimmers went slower at night) ... but that's why they say "you have to swim fast in the morning".  Britt ended up beating the swimmer she was tied with after prelims.  She said she was happy and so am I.

Great week of swimming ... 3 races, 2 school records, 1 all american honor (aka hardware!), and (probably) a top 30 finish.  Not too shabby!

100 Breast - PreLims

Left the hotel in plenty of time this morning...lots of heats in the 500, meant a little more sitting around than we would have liked after warming up, but Britt had a great warm up.  She had her fastest 25 sprint to finish up warm up.  We also had to sit through the 100 backstrokes, but they went a lot faster than the 500's.

Britt was in the last heat of 5 in lane 6.  She ended up racing to a 3rd place finish in her heat...Had a few shortened up strokes towards the end of the race when the fatigue started to set in, but other than that the whole 100 looked great ... strong and fast!  Her time of 1:03.90 tied her for 5th going in to finals.  Already filled out the bio form for her and at the same time discovered she will be in lane 7 (was in lane 8 for the 50, and 6 for the prelim swim...Britt said " i like this side of the pool" ... is is definitely the loudest side with it being against the wall where teams can stand (lane 1 is against the bulk head where only coaches can stand).

Had a super delish Jimmy Johns lunch before coming back to the hotel ... time to rest and relax before heading back for finals!

1:03.90. Tie for 5th going into finals. New School Record!!!

Thursday Update

Don't worry swim fans, I didn't forget about y'all (y'all is texas talk for you all)...but there hasn't been a lot to report on today.  Britt had a good warm up this morning and an even better warm up tonight.  Tomorrow she is in heat 5 (of 5) in lane 6 (seeded 10th going in)....FINALLY going to get to race.  Seems like forever ago she swam her school record time in the 50 free.

According to the timeline the 100 breaststroke will be starting 11:54am (texas time) ... I will report back on how the session goes.

Treats from Aiden!!

Scoreboard School Record

Day 1 cont.

As previously uploaded we have a new school record holder in the 50 free ... 24.07!  Previous record was our 3rd oldest on the books, Gerda Smirnova 24.14.

From where I go stuck standing, I missed the middle 25 yards of the 50 (saw the beginning and end)  Britt was 3rd to the wall (from lane 8) with an official 11.77 and a 12.30 coming back.  (touch pads at both ends) (reaction time .71).  We spent some time thinking and working on getting some long strokes gong ... mission accomplished.  Great way to start the meet and get some good mojo going.

We are going to continue to swim each session going into Friday's 100 breast ... not a lot of swimming, but enough to get into a routine and stay comfortable in the water.

50 free school record. 24.07!!!

DAY 1

Banquet was a pretty good affair ... right across the street from the Dallas Cowboy football stadium in a little banquet hall type of thing.  We spent some quality time with the IUP NCAA contingent ... while we ate and eventually headed back to the hotel.

A good nights sleep was had going into the first day of the meet.  Britt is in heat 2 lane 8 for the 50 ... according to the timeline the 50 is set to start shortly after 11am (texas time)...Check out the live timing or watch on the webcast!

I am going to get a morning run in before heading to breakfast and the pool!

Headed to the Banquet

A good Tuesday morning...

Today's morning warm up was a pretty solid one for Britt ... looked great and is finally getting the hang of the starting blocks (which are at the max height...maybe a little higher than our blocks back home) and having some great times for 25 sprints...

We came back to the hotel where I dropped Britt and Sam off and then headed back to the pool for the annual pre day 1 coaches meeting.  It was uneventful and provided a lot of house keeping and informational items...after which I picked Britt, Sam (and Kutztown's swimmer, Jordan) up and we hit Target (i bought a bag of pretzels ... Britt bought some shoes for one of her two dress options for the banquet tonight, and Sam who finished book 1 of the Hunger Games series, bought book 2).

We hit the local Chick-Fil-A ... I had some waffle fries and the women had a late lunch.  We came back to the hotel for nap time followed by our banquet tonight.

Tomorrow starts the meet with Britt swimming the 50 free...great way to kick off the meet!

sam loves her book!!

Monday PM

2 and a half hours at a pretty decent mall resulted in no major purchases (I did enjoy a Mrs Fields cookie) before heading back to the hotel.  I had a committee meeting at a Hilton (ended up with a few free pens ... great for the weight room!) where we reviewed a lot of information, mostly review...nothing new, no surprises.

Dinner was included and for the first time in my life I had Jalapeno mashed potatoes ... usually I am not a fan of jalapeno anything, but these where DE - LISH.  Also enjoyed some chicken breast, topped with a Texas BBQ sauce (also delish) and a salad.  I stopped at a 7-11 for a coke/cherry mixed slurpee (a medium size)

Britt and Sam joined Kutztown at "on the border" for dinner ... but made sure to get back in time for the season finale of the bachelor.  Priorities.

Tomorrow we are going to leave an hour earlier than today to head over for a swim (9:30am) ... after which we will make a quick stop for lunch.  I will have to head back to the pool for our coaches meeting/lunch.  Then we are headed to out for a little more shopping before the Tuesday Student-Athlete banquet.

Monday AM

We had a sleepin' in kind of morning ...  headed to the pool at 10:30 when most teams where finishing up their morning swim.  Ran into IUP's NCAA contingent as they where swimming.  Did some descending 50's and a few starts.  Still feeling good ... We are going to spend today at the mall and doing some other random touristy "stuff".

Did have a chance to check out the NCAA apparel sale items and was glad to not see more than 1 thing that I would like to buy (cheaper that way!) ... so more money for the mall today? (probably not...)

Weather is more or less amazing ... and we are enjoying it!!

Start

Sunday in Mansfield

We will be spending some time with the Kutztown NCAA contingent as they are in our hotel and with 1 swimmer it is nice for both Britt and our 'trainer' Sam to have another person that's not a coach to hang out with...

After checking in to our hotel we took a few minutes to unpack and get settled before heading over to the pool ... (see picture below).  Real Nice!  Britt did a nice long warm up finishing up with some 50's and a few starts...the starting blocks are pretty nice and may be just a little bit higher than our blocks so Britt will have to do a few extra starts to get comfortable and avoid the deep starts.

After swimming we headed to Britt's birthday dinner ... Texas Roadhouse (no signing this year!).  After having just a little too much food (well, I had a little too much) we hit up a local grocery store for some supplies and snacks.  Headed back to the hotel where I finished up packing and will be going to bed very soon.

Going to not rush over to the pool to quickly tomorrow ... 10:30 departure, then we will have a good lunch and then probably come back to the hotel before finding a field trip to go on.

Great way to start championship week.

Final Results

click HERE to view full results.  A rather successful weekend for us ... Kasey had a career ending swim to remember, as previously noted breaking the oldest LHU record in the books.  Kayla went her best ever 100 backstroke, getting the "double O" ... Sam Durham dropped another tenth of a second on her season best time in the 50 ... Jenna went another 58.1 in the fly (as she did at PSACs) ... the 200 medley relay improved their time, but didn't quite go fast enough to get selected to go to the NCAAs ... Britt went after some more B cuts, but came up just a little short ... we'll keep the focus on training for the 50 free & 100 breast for NCAAs.

Official selections come out on Wednesday ... the PSAC continues to be a top conference and should be well represented at the meet.

Small Feast

After today's session we road tripped to the Rehrig residence where we all enjoyed a small feast ... Delish. Nice to have a little quality time to go along with some resting and relaxing.

Tonight's session will start off with our 200 medley relay ... Sam in the 50 with Kasey. Britt may or may not go after the b cut in the 100 fly, Kayla and Jenna have the option of a time trial to end the night.

Chipolte is on tap for dinner before the drive back to the Haven.

West Chester's Last Chance Meet

We're headed to West Chester tomorrow (friday) and Saturday for a last chance qualifying meet.  We are searching for about a second time drop in our 200 medley relay ... Kasey is going to give another run at the 500 free school record...Britt is going to try and get a few more B cuts (we're feeling pretty good about her qualifying individually in the 100 breast...currently ranked 10th in the country)...Sam D is going to swim the 50 free ... Kayla and Jenna may add in a few time trials of their own too.

Not packing the laptop, so I will get a few updates via the iphone ... also be sure to check out our facebook and twitter pages.

Last Session ... Line out the door, again

Sunday Prelims

Started with Kayla's 200 backstroke ... 2 second time drop on the season, good enough for a lifetime best.

GREAT 100 freestyles as well.  Started with Jenna going a lifetime best, heat 2 had 3 Haven swimmers, Abby, Kristen C, & Carley ... all 3 season best times, and 2 lifetime bests!  Sam Durham didn't have the result she was looking for out in lane 8, but will be leadin off our 400 free relay tonight (heat 1 lane 4).  Rehrig, lifetime best and is seeded 8th going into finals.

The 200 fly was the bread and butter for a lot of our swimmers ... Allie looked long and smooth the whole time and had a lifetime best, just missing top 16.  Milstead crushed her lifetime best!  Erin took hers out a little too conservative and had a little too much in the tank coming home ... Kristin Taylor had the opposite problem, going out a little too strong and struggled a little bit.

Kasey too her mile out strong and was on record pace until the 1250 mark before falling off pace, only to bring it back, while chasing down the swimmer in the lane next to her ... only ended up missing her own record by about a half second.

Tonight, we have the senior ceremony ...  the 200 medley relay time trial ... Britt's 100 free ... 400 free relay.

In the battle of the women's only programs we currently sit in 2nd (behing CAL / ahead of Kutztown) ... odds are pretty good it will come down to the last relay to determine 2nd place with Kutztown ... lots of racing tonight!!

TEAM HAVEN!

Finals

Just 3 swims tonight.  Jenna went into finals in the 100 fly 7th, and stayed 7th ... just a little off her prelim time, but a great race!  Britt swam the 100 breast as the top seed, went out .3 slower in the first 50 and her final time was about .2 slower than this morning ... had a GREAT race and finished 2nd.  We finished the session with the 800 free relay, and dropped about 22 seconds on the night with everyone (Durham, Miller, Navarro & Blesh) in the 159-200 range.

Another feast from Olive Garden for dinner ... special thanks to the Rehrig's and Campbell's for helping out with picking up of the food while we are able to go right back to the hotel and relax.

Going to sleep in a little bit longer than normal tomorrow morning before heading to the pool for the events that sent a lot of people to this meet.  200 back, 100 free, & a big one for us ... 200 fly.  We will also have Kasey's 1650 free before we hit wegmans for lunch, before heading back to the hotel for some quality rest and relaxation before heading to the pool for finals.

Great Racing so far ... but still another whole day of excitement for us, even though we are graduating 5 of our 13 qualifiers we are still a very young team and there is a lot of valuable experience being gained at this meet.

Tomorrow's blog updates, may be a little slow, but will get them up asap.

also, of note ...  tomorrow evening, before the 1650 we will get our time trial in of the 200 medley relay ... give it another shot ... can't wait!

400 med relay (5th)

Britt 2nd Place

Prelims

click HERE to view results (remember to scroll down)...

400 IM - 5 swims (Kury, Milstead, Muha, Navarro, Taylor) ... 5 season best times!  and ended up with 3 all time top 5 times.  great way to start the morning!  Taylor, Kury did the back to back events, with the 100 fly up next.  Both season best times, with Taylor going a 1:01.95 - best ever!  Schnars and Brooks both had season best swim, with Brooks coming back 7th tonight.

Abby Miller swam just off her season best in the 200 free ... next up was the 100 breast ... 2 top 5 performances, Navarro going under 1:10 for the first time ever (1:09.89) and Britt smashing her school record with a 1:04.01, coming back as the top seed tonight.  Should be a great race for her tonight.

Capretti and Schnars swam the 100 back and had some decent swims!

Sam Durham and Carley Nitchie had another go at the 50 free with a time trial ... Sam went a 24.6, great swim and looked much better ... Carley went a lifetime best 24.94, breaking 25 for the first time ever.

GREAT MORNING SESSION!!

tonight, we will add in the 800 free relay ... that's still TBD.

Lunch was a combo of Chik-Filet and Panera Bread ... with roughly 3 hours back at the hotel, before heading back and doing it again.  Can't wait to see what tonight has in store for us!!

comments

just a quick note on those who'd like to comment on posts ... we were getting hit with a spammer, so I had to turn the comments to "approval before posting" ... may take me a little bit but, I will get to them.

Friday!

VERY solid night of racing for us.

Same deal as before ... click HERE and scroll down to view the results.

Started off with the 200 free relay ... we swam to 5th place from the first heat!  Great effort by Rehrig, Durham, Capretti & Brooks!  Next up for us was Rehrig in the 200 IM ... took it out very strong, backed off a little too much in the backstroke but brought it home very well to stay 10th.  Capretti caught some waves and finished again, in the same spot as she qualified ... 15th.  Finished the night was a great 400 medley relay, finishing 6th from the first heat.

Had a longer than normal wait on dinner from Al's Subs ... last time going there.  But in the end I am confident everyone had a good meal.

HUGE day of racing tomorrow...400 im, 100 of all the strokes (except free), 200 free.  We are also going to have Durham and Nitchie time trial the 50 free in some clean water.

Friday Prelims

To view results ... click HERE and scroll down.

Kasey's 500 was another 5:18 ... very consistent!  the 200 im's for Milstead and Navarro were great swims and lifetime bests.  Rehrig took our her IM wicked fast and strong and paid for it a little bit at the end ... she is tied for 9th going into finals.  The 50 free was a mixed bag for us ... Brooks broke 25 for the first time ever, winning the heat from lane 1! Capretti went her lifetime best and will have a 2nd swim tonight seeded 15th.  Miller had a nervous swim but still right on her time.  A good first race for her.  Durham  was a little off and got hit with a few waves coming home in lane 8.

Small feast at Wegmans for lunch followed by some quality rest and relaxation at the hotel.

3rd place 200 medley relay!! ... a time trial is in order as all 4 of the women are capable of going faster, but what a race!!

Kasey best ever 500 going out in the 1000 ... Allie best ever 1000.

3 swims, 3 great results...quick morning session tomorrow with the 500 free, 200 im and 50 free.

We have had more than our fair share of suit malfunctions...I have always been a die hard TYR guy, but after all the frustrations we have had so far with the suits this year, I am going to have to re-consider where loyalties lie.

Bill Rehrig is sewing up a seam now ... and after "shoving" Kristin Taylor into a suit (after Kristen Capretti literally bruised herself trying to get it on) we should be okay (knock on wood).

All that being said, we had a decent Olive Garden dinner in our lobby and the women are resting up nicely going into the 2nd session.

Haven Invite Today

Today we are having our last regular season competition.  It is going to be a fairly laid back invite style meet with Mansfield.  Prelims and Finals, followed by some time trials ... giving everyone 3 chances to reach their goal!

(for all those who don't know, you're only allowed to swim 1 time trial per event, per meet.  So with prelims and finals giving the women 2 chances, and added time trial will give them a 3rd)

Results to follow late this afternoon / evening.

We also teamed with Kutztown again this year, wearing special LHU / KU purple white caps AND we collect donations for Pancreatic Cancer Research at our dual meet and at the men's basketball game.

Here is a great shot of Britt Rehrig sporting the special cap...(the other side has the LHU logo)

We had some great races but ended up just 6 points shy of the win...click HERE to view the full results.  Our TEAM has come a long way this year, and I am incredibility proud of the way we raced, the way we cheered, the way we battled through.  We still have a few more meets to go and I can't wait to see just how well our TEAM does as we finish up the 2011 - 2012 season!

Big Win Today!

We started today at 8am going for about 55 minutes as a bit of a wake up ... Then we got on the road shortly after 9:45am.

We had a quick sheetz pit stop outside of Harrisburg (which also served as the wake up call ... With an hour to go in the drive it is the perfect time to wake up, and stay awake)

Lady Gaga (aka kasey blesh) got us even more awake as we pulled into Millersville.

Team had a great warm up getting used to different walls and weird blocks.

I was quite pleased with our over all racing today ... Everyone had 3 events and they all were swum in just over 60 minutes (including 2 - 10 min breaks).

A decent quickly served dinner at 2 cousins restaurant, an we got on our way.

We have 1 workout tomorrow and 2 thursday before our next meet Friday and again on Saturday.
