Though our 200 Medley relay of Kayla Schnars, Laura Stephens, Britt Rehrig, and Carley Nitchie and our 200 Free Relay of Britt, Laura, Kristen Capretti, and Carley were not selected to the meet, their NCAA B cut has given them the opportunity to earn the very prestigious NCAA Academic All American status if they finish this semester with a 3.5 or better!

Session 6 and 7

Sorry for the lack of blog posts mid day today. We checked out of our hotel this morning and I was without quick access to the computer.

Kayla Schnars had a big 200 Back and finished with a 2:12.60, improving her time on the All Time Top 5 list. Tonight she did a 100 time trial and was SO CLOSE to going under a minute.

Kristin Taylor had a big prelim 200 fly with a 2:13.63, and dropped it even further to a 2:12.97, good enough for 2nd on the All Time Top 5. List.

The final race of the 400 Free Relay provided some great excitement with the team of Britt Rehrig, Kaitlyn Druby, Carley Nitchie, and Kristen Capretti finishing with a time of 3:39.03.

Fun story: around noon today Kaitlyn Druby asked: "Can I please swim in the relay, I can go 56." She finished with a split of 55.48. EXCELLENT SWIM, and that is what conference swims are made of!

Britt Rehrig's lead off swim of 52.48 is the new LHU school record in the 100 Free. This was the second oldest record on the books, set in 2006. Super exciting to see and a fun way to end the 2013 PSAC Meet!

Taco Bell and McDonalds for dinner, and as you would expect nearly everyone is sleeping off the weekend on the hydride home.

Big shout out to HavenNation that showed up to our meet. It was awesome to see the dedicated parents waiting in line for hours to see their daughters, and we had a HUGE amount of Alumni show up for the meet as well. Your support was great, and you were all rock stars in the stands. THANK YOU ALL!

NCAA entries are due tomorrow by 5pm, and we'll know if we're headed to Birmingham on Tuesday night/Wednesday night. Exciting and nerve wracking time of the year for sure. One more time...GO HAVEN !

Session 5- Finals

Quick post tonight to recap a quick night of swimming-

Britt Rehrig took 6th overall (went into the event 8th) in the 100 Fly with an overall time of 58.70. Pretty solid swim with the 100 breast to come up next.

She took 2nd bettering her prelims time by .2 to finish with a 1:04. 41. A pretty good swim and

Very solid swim tonight on the 800 Free Relay. Shannon Milstead bettered her 200 time from this morning and also moved up a place on the All Time Top 5 list, she now sits at 4th with a 1:58.60.

Olive Garden for dinner. I can honestly say that thus far (knock on wood) the food service has been great without any major hiccups. Jimmy has been a rockstar handling all of our orders, very impressed.

Final day of the meet tomorrow. Everyone is tired, but we're still looking for some good swims.

Tomorrow's Events: (with heat and lane and tentative timeline for those watching at home)

200 Fly (10:55am)

We've had a big weekend timewise thus far this weekend, and we're looking to put an exclamation point on the meet. LETS GO HAVEN!

Next Years Alumni Team!

Big Haven alumni presence at the PSAC meet! Missing a few, but they're all here in spirit.

Session 4- Saturday Prelims

Another pretty solid session this morning with a few highlights:

Britt Rehrig pulled the successful back to back swims, making it to the final heat in the 100 Fly and the 100 Breast, going 58.60 in the Fly, and 1:04.64 in the Breast. She’ll have a bit more rest between the evening swims and she’s looking to have 2 big ones! Should be fun to watch!

Shannon Milstead had her best 200 free, going 1:59.24 and paving her way to the All Time Top 5 list. Not a bad way to make her 2013 PSAC Debut,

Laura Stephens went a 1:07.75 in the 100 breast and Kaitlyn Druby went a 1:10.78 (Lifetime best!)

Kayla Schnars had a 1:00.70 in her 100 back, which is her 2nd fastest ever, not a bad swim at all, but unfortunately finished 17th just out of a 2nd swim tonight. She’s looked strong all meet and will hopefully have a great race tomorrow!

A LOT of swimmers went with their folks this afternoon for lunch, so the ones that were left decided they wanted to eat lunch at Wegmans (again), not a problem, as they have something there for EVERYONE (note: Everyone is happy).

We’re back to it for finals this evening! 6pm on the live stream!
100 Fly-Britt- Heat 2, Lane 8
100 Breast- Heat 2, Lane 5
800 Free Relay- Heat 1, Lane 6- Milstead will be leading this race off after her great swim today!

Lets finish out tonight strong! GO HAVEN!

Session 3- Night Number 2

Big and fun night for Haven Swimming! Session #3 was our best so far, and it was a team effort the whole way.

200 Free Relay- Droped nearly 2 seconds from the seed to go 1:37.83, moving up from 11th to 8th! The women in that race achieved an NCAA B Cut and Britt Rehrig’s lead off leg was 23.92, a new school record! The other women had great splits, Laura Stephens bouncing back with a 25.14, Kristin Capretti split a 24.57, and Carley Nitchie went a 24.20. All great swims and a huge way to start the meet.

Britt was not quite as fast in the 50 free, but still put up a great time of 24.18, good enough for 6th overall.

The 400 Medley Relay of Kayla Schnars, Britt Rehrig, Kristin Taylor, and Kristen Capretti had a 3.41 second drop from the seed time (From November at IUP). They finished with a 3:58.82, and it was awesome to see them go under 4:00.

In that swim, Kayla went a lifetime best of 1:00.13, improving her time on the All Time Top 5 List! She’s got the individual event tomorrow, and we’re hoping she goes even faster! Britt split a 1:03.82, Kristin was also SO close to going under a minute in the 100 Fly with a 1:00.04, and Capretti capped off her big night with a 54.83.

Right now we are sitting in 9th place in the women’s standings with 75 points.

Take out to go from Al’s Pizza (We pass it everyday on the way to the pool) and it was GOOD. I don’t know if its because it was nearly 8:45pm and we were all starved, but it tasted especially good tonight!

It was nice to see our base of parents grow today, and I wish all that are coming in for tomorrow's session safe travels into the Harrisburg area! We're also growing our Alumni base, and we're excited to see a lot of Haven Pride in the stands tomorrow!

Tomorrow morning’s session will be longer than the one today, but our women will be well rested and ready for it. On the Agenda…(heat and lane with tentative timeline for those of you watching at home)

400 IM
Allie Muha- heat 1, lane 1- 10:00am
Kristin Taylor-heat 3, lane 8- 10:11am

100 Fly
Britt Rehrig- heat 3, lane 5- 10:28am
Kristin Taylor- heat 2, lane 1- 10:27am
Kaitlyn Druby- heat 1, lane 6- 10:26am

200 Free
Shannon Milstead- heat 2, lane 8-10:37am

100 Breast
Britt Rehrig-heat 4, lane 4-11:01am
Laura Stephens-heat 3, lane 3-10:59am
Kaitlyn Druby-heat 1, lane 5- 10:57am

100 Back
Kayla Schnars-heat 2, lane 8-11:09am

We're off to the pool at 8:15am again tomorrow looking to duplicate today's results! GO HAVEN!

Session #2- Friday Prelims

Pretty Solid 2nd Session

500 Free- Allie Muha got the meet started with a 5:30.85. The first swim is sometimes the toughest, especially if it’s a mid distance race. Allie has the 400 IM tomorrow and the 200 Fly Sunday, so there will be a few more opportunities to go fast!

200 IM- Laura Stephens dropped to a season best time of 2:17.30 from lane 8. Laura’s got a big 100 Breast tomorrow and should be all ready to go.

50 Free- Times are as follows:
Britt Rehrig – 24.08 (Just .01 off of her lifetime best)
Carley Nitchie- 24.92
Kristen Capretti- 25.31
Kayla Schnars -25.89
Kaitlyn Druby- 25.96 (First time under 26!)

Britt is seeded 4th going into tonight. Check it out on the live stream (6:36pm according to the tentative timeline.) She’ll be in heat 2, lane 6. The timeline may or may not be accurate due to the award ceremonies. (We’ll know more about that after this session)

Team favorite .Wegmans for lunch. Anywhere you can go and get sushi, Italian, Chinese, or traditional American cuisine under the same roof for a moderate price is ideal to me! A few of the women spent the break with their folks that have traveled in for the meet. (Another favorite part of the meet for me is that swimmers get to spend some quality time with their families during some breaks).

We ended up back at the hotel with plenty of time for the women to rest up for finals tonight. On the agenda for “The Haven” this evening:

200 Free Relay- 6:00pm- heat 1, lane 3
50 Free- Britt Rehrig- Stated above
400 Medley Relay- heat 1, lane 3.

Time to keep the fast swimming going! GO HAVEN

GREAT First Session

First session was very simple for us, the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Kayla Schnars, Laura Stephens, Britt Rehrig, and Carley Nitchie finished with a time of 1:47.95 and a NCAA B cut! The women finished 6th and looked pretty good in the water.

A few years ago they only swam the 1000 free on night number one, but since they've added the 200 Medley as the first event it has traditionally been a HUGE start to LHU's PSAC meet, so we're obviously hoping that the fast racing continues!

After the medley and everyone got a long warmdown (note: I'm a big fan of long warmdowns) we packed up and hit the road to get our delicious Olive Garden To Go and brought it back to the hotel. We have a 7:45am wake up call with an 8:15am departure time.

If you're traveling in, please expect long lines at the door. They are only allowing 400 per session, and since school is in tomorrow they are not opening the doors until 8am.

Tomorrow's session will be a quick one with only three events (and their tentative start time according to the timeline)

500 Free-10:00am
Allie Muha

200 IM-10:50am
Laura Stephens

50 Free-11:12am
Britt Rehrig
Carley Nitchie
Kristen Capretti
Kayla Schnars
Kaitlyn Druby

Lets keep it up! GO HAVEN!

All Checked In!

After a quick stop at Applebee's we have arrived at our hotel (Hampton Inn) and are all checked in!

Tonight's session will be a quick one for us, only swimming the 200 Medley Relay. (We'll be in Heat 2, lane 7.)  Meet begins at 6:30 pm, and we're the first event! Lets hope for a fast start to this meet!

Not at Cumberland Valley High School? You can watch it streaming live HERE. Thanks to they guys from SwimUtopia for streaming it for the Haven (and swimming) fans at home!

On Our Way to PSACs!

First movie is Footloose (the recent remake).
We're excited and ready! GO HAVEN!

T Minus 24 Hours

We've been doing our meet warm up all week to be as consistent as possible heading into the meet. Today, with it being the final day we did the warm up, then did it again backwards.

Meet Warm Up
600 oyo
6 x 50 @ :50
o-drill
e-swim
3 x 100 @ 1:40
descend 1-3
3 x 75 @ 1:10
2 x 25 from a dive
3 finishes

Something that is pretty interesting about taper time is practices get substantially shorter, but our women fill up the time with stories. Below is Britt Rehrig reading the AWESOME song that the students from her class wrote her. (Big shout out to Mrs. Weaver's class. I know they're reading the blog!) They also had a pep rally to see her off!

Our PSAC Team Tshirt....

Kristin Taylor also had a story. The funny part is that this is a completely different part of the practice.

We're on the road tomorrow at 10am, with our traditional stop at Applebees! The women look fast in the water, everyone's spirits are up, we're ready to go! These women have put in the hard work, and they deserve to do well. Its fun to swim fast, so lets go have some fun! GO HAVEN!

Winter Pep Rally and Coaches Community Circle Breakfast

Last night the LHU Cheerleading team hosted a pep rally for winter sports in Thomas Field House at 9pm. (Not quite midnight madness....but close enough). Pretty simple layout, all teams could come up and give a 1 minute speech about their season. In between some speeches there was a 3 point contest and a half court shot contest. Thank you to MC Albert Jones for making the night fun and helping us get the word out about Women's Swimming on this campus!

Above are 2 of our seniors, Britt Maguire and Shannon Milstead giving the speech for our team. A big thank you goes out to them both!

This morning (2/6) the Athletic Department hosted its first Coaches Community Circle Breakfast, and we'd like to thank our guests, Albert Jones, and representatives of the newly formed Clinton County Swim Association.(Rebekah Cygan, and Loretta Jones) Senior Britt Maguire represented the swimmers well and her attendance was much appreciated. Thank you all that came out to support Haven Nation at this event!

Haven Invite

Our Haven Invite was a prelims/finals meet that took charge as our “last chance” meet to qualify for PSACs. Our conference operates as a “one cut and you’re in” meet where after you achieve a PSAC cut you can also swim any other event you’d like provided that you have a time for it this competitive season, so this meet also served as a chance for our PSAC qualifiers to swim some off events in the chance that they may want to swim it at the conference meet.

This meet, just like the Vulcan Dual Meet Challenge from last weekend is fun because no matter where our women are in their season, there is something to step up and swim for.

Our team’s results can be viewed here.

We’d like to send a special congratulations to our four seniors who have done so much for this team over their time here.

Our four seniors (and links to their senior profile):

It continues to impress me with how our meets are bringing fans in the seats, whether it is parents, siblings, grandparents, fellow students, community members, or anyone that happens to make up “Haven Nation.” Thank you to everyone that came out! If anyone got any good pictures they'd like to share...please send them forward to jnb5025@lhup.edu

After our meet, we had a team tailgate in the Zimmerli where I would like to say thank you again to all of our team parents that helped make this happen. It was a great way to send out our seniors and cap off our regular season and its something that not every team does. I appreciate the work and dedication that went into organizing the event, and thank you all again.

Special congrats goes to senior Shannon Milstead and her now fiancé Brandon on the “big question”. We’re excited to see where life takes you both together and I speak for everyone there to say that we were all excited to be a part of your special moment.

PSACs are only 9 days away…One final push…LETS GO HAVEN!

Favorite Event-All Events

Favorite Practice-Swim Trains

Best Team Memory -The experience I have gained and the opportunity to work with a great group of athletes

Where do you see yourself in 10 years -Coaching Swimming at the College level

Advice to the team- The best advice I can give is to always stay positive and give 100 percent. Remember, it's a beautiful day and it's great to be alive!

Senior Profile: Brittany Rehrig

Brittany Rehrig

Name (and nickname)- Brittany, Britt, B-Rig

Hometown- Wilmington, DE

Major- Elementary Education

Favorite Event- My favorite would be the 50 free, but my best is the 100 breast.

Favorite Practice- Any that involve a get-out swim

Best Team Memory: Freshman year in Cocoa Beach when we treated ourselves to McDonalds.. then Taco Bell.. then Dairy Queen (all within a half hour.) After swimming 12 x 1000s, there was no shame - just happy girls.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years- Hopefully teaching and coaching and being a beach bum in the summer. Maybe married with kids, but that could be a stretch at this point.

Advice to the team- Stay positive, even on days when you question why you still swim. It is worth it to look back and realize all that you have accomplished. Don't let big meets work you up. Just think back on all of the hard sets that you never thought you would be able to finish. If you tell yourself you will swim fast, you will. Don't sweat the small stuff. Never take your teammates for granted because they will be the best friends you will ever have. Four years will fly by, so soak it all up while you can. I will miss you girls so much. Thanks for becoming my family and for staying by my side through it all! Don't forget: when you are faced with a tough decision, YOLO.
