Day 4 ~ 50 Freestyle

8:30am was our departure time for the pool. We made it there in plenty of time to get a good warm up in a not so crowded lane. (again, sharing the pool with Delta State…apparently, they too enjoy the early warm up).

Before “blogging” further I’d like to take a quick paragraph to mention how much I enjoy the PSAC. There are several “large” PSAC contingents here (Clarion & West Chester) but other teams like Bloomsburg, California, & IUP are in the same boat as us…just 1 qualifier (our Florida training “home slices” Edinboro, have 2 qualifiers). By virtue of their top 5 performance last year WCU received their choice of seating and naturally took some space close to the competition pool. The rest of the PSAC has set up a “team PSAC” section. It was really great to see Amanda talking it up with Bloomsburg Senior, and nationals veteran, Dianna Smith. It’s not always a “love fest” in the PSAC, but when it comes down too it we are there supporting, and rooting for each other.

I tried my best not to be too annoying this morning, so I gave Amanda some space after her 2nd warm up (consisting of 2 all out 25’s). Spent a lot of time talking with legendary Bloomsburg coach, Dave Rider, who I have a feeling was giving an equal amount of space to Dianna.

Amanda was seeded 46th (out of 52) on the psych sheet with a time of 24.63 … after scratches, there ended up being 46 people entered. Amanda popped off a smoking lifetime best performance of 24.22 to end up tied for 24th.

I couldn’t have asked for anything more…a great first swim at her first NCAA’s. To end up in the top 25 is awesome.

We had another delicious meal for lunch, this time at Macaroni Grill…were the crayons are free.

In an effort to get some time outside of the hotel we are going to hit the mall and head back to the pool this evening to get in a warm up swim (it is important to get in the habit of swimming twice in a day) and root on some PSAC swimmers.
