NCAA finale

Last night was awesome!  The heat overall was a little slower (6 of the 8 swimmers went slower at night) ... but that's why they say "you have to swim fast in the morning".  Britt ended up beating the swimmer she was tied with after prelims.  She said she was happy and so am I.

Great week of swimming ... 3 races, 2 school records, 1 all american honor (aka hardware!), and (probably) a top 30 finish.  Not too shabby!

All-American Britt Rehrig 6th place 100 breast

100 Breast - PreLims

Left the hotel in plenty of time this morning...lots of heats in the 500, meant a little more sitting around than we would have liked after warming up, but Britt had a great warm up.  She had her fastest 25 sprint to finish up warm up.  We also had to sit through the 100 backstrokes, but they went a lot faster than the 500's.

Britt was in the last heat of 5 in lane 6.  She ended up racing to a 3rd place finish in her heat...Had a few shortened up strokes towards the end of the race when the fatigue started to set in, but other than that the whole 100 looked great ... strong and fast!  Her time of 1:03.90 tied her for 5th going in to finals.  Already filled out the bio form for her and at the same time discovered she will be in lane 7 (was in lane 8 for the 50, and 6 for the prelim swim...Britt said " i like this side of the pool" ... is is definitely the loudest side with it being against the wall where teams can stand (lane 1 is against the bulk head where only coaches can stand).

Had a super delish Jimmy Johns lunch before coming back to the hotel ... time to rest and relax before heading back for finals!

1:03.90. Tie for 5th going into finals. New School Record!!!

Thursday Update

Don't worry swim fans, I didn't forget about y'all (y'all is texas talk for you all)...but there hasn't been a lot to report on today.  Britt had a good warm up this morning and an even better warm up tonight.  Tomorrow she is in heat 5 (of 5) in lane 6 (seeded 10th going in)....FINALLY going to get to race.  Seems like forever ago she swam her school record time in the 50 free.

According to the timeline the 100 breaststroke will be starting 11:54am (texas time) ... I will report back on how the session goes.

Treats from Aiden!!

Scoreboard School Record

Day 1 cont.

As previously uploaded we have a new school record holder in the 50 free ... 24.07!  Previous record was our 3rd oldest on the books, Gerda Smirnova 24.14.

From where I go stuck standing, I missed the middle 25 yards of the 50 (saw the beginning and end)  Britt was 3rd to the wall (from lane 8) with an official 11.77 and a 12.30 coming back.  (touch pads at both ends) (reaction time .71).  We spent some time thinking and working on getting some long strokes gong ... mission accomplished.  Great way to start the meet and get some good mojo going.

We are going to continue to swim each session going into Friday's 100 breast ... not a lot of swimming, but enough to get into a routine and stay comfortable in the water.

50 free school record. 24.07!!!

DAY 1

Banquet was a pretty good affair ... right across the street from the Dallas Cowboy football stadium in a little banquet hall type of thing.  We spent some quality time with the IUP NCAA contingent ... while we ate and eventually headed back to the hotel.

A good nights sleep was had going into the first day of the meet.  Britt is in heat 2 lane 8 for the 50 ... according to the timeline the 50 is set to start shortly after 11am (texas time)...Check out the live timing or watch on the webcast!

I am going to get a morning run in before heading to breakfast and the pool!

Headed to the Banquet

A good Tuesday morning...

Today's morning warm up was a pretty solid one for Britt ... looked great and is finally getting the hang of the starting blocks (which are at the max height...maybe a little higher than our blocks back home) and having some great times for 25 sprints...

We came back to the hotel where I dropped Britt and Sam off and then headed back to the pool for the annual pre day 1 coaches meeting.  It was uneventful and provided a lot of house keeping and informational items...after which I picked Britt, Sam (and Kutztown's swimmer, Jordan) up and we hit Target (i bought a bag of pretzels ... Britt bought some shoes for one of her two dress options for the banquet tonight, and Sam who finished book 1 of the Hunger Games series, bought book 2).

We hit the local Chick-Fil-A ... I had some waffle fries and the women had a late lunch.  We came back to the hotel for nap time followed by our banquet tonight.

Tomorrow starts the meet with Britt swimming the 50 free...great way to kick off the meet!

sam loves her book!!

Monday PM

2 and a half hours at a pretty decent mall resulted in no major purchases (I did enjoy a Mrs Fields cookie) before heading back to the hotel.  I had a committee meeting at a Hilton (ended up with a few free pens ... great for the weight room!) where we reviewed a lot of information, mostly review...nothing new, no surprises.

Dinner was included and for the first time in my life I had Jalapeno mashed potatoes ... usually I am not a fan of jalapeno anything, but these where DE - LISH.  Also enjoyed some chicken breast, topped with a Texas BBQ sauce (also delish) and a salad.  I stopped at a 7-11 for a coke/cherry mixed slurpee (a medium size)

Britt and Sam joined Kutztown at "on the border" for dinner ... but made sure to get back in time for the season finale of the bachelor.  Priorities.

Tomorrow we are going to leave an hour earlier than today to head over for a swim (9:30am) ... after which we will make a quick stop for lunch.  I will have to head back to the pool for our coaches meeting/lunch.  Then we are headed to out for a little more shopping before the Tuesday Student-Athlete banquet.

Monday AM

We had a sleepin' in kind of morning ...  headed to the pool at 10:30 when most teams where finishing up their morning swim.  Ran into IUP's NCAA contingent as they where swimming.  Did some descending 50's and a few starts.  Still feeling good ... We are going to spend today at the mall and doing some other random touristy "stuff".

Did have a chance to check out the NCAA apparel sale items and was glad to not see more than 1 thing that I would like to buy (cheaper that way!) ... so more money for the mall today? (probably not...)

Weather is more or less amazing ... and we are enjoying it!!

Start

Sunday in Mansfield

We will be spending some time with the Kutztown NCAA contingent as they are in our hotel and with 1 swimmer it is nice for both Britt and our 'trainer' Sam to have another person that's not a coach to hang out with...

After checking in to our hotel we took a few minutes to unpack and get settled before heading over to the pool ... (see picture below).  Real Nice!  Britt did a nice long warm up finishing up with some 50's and a few starts...the starting blocks are pretty nice and may be just a little bit higher than our blocks so Britt will have to do a few extra starts to get comfortable and avoid the deep starts.

After swimming we headed to Britt's birthday dinner ... Texas Roadhouse (no signing this year!).  After having just a little too much food (well, I had a little too much) we hit up a local grocery store for some supplies and snacks.  Headed back to the hotel where I finished up packing and will be going to bed very soon.

Going to not rush over to the pool to quickly tomorrow ... 10:30 departure, then we will have a good lunch and then probably come back to the hotel before finding a field trip to go on.

Great way to start championship week.
