Millersville Meet 11/30

The Millersville meet was a great example of what the women can accomplish when they come together. We were coming off a great meet at IUP before Thanksgiving, and this was a great meet to follow it up because to do well, the team had to get up and RACE!
Our women picked up wins in 8 of 11 individual events, and everyone truly contributed to the cause. Some highlights of the meet were:

-The 200 medley relay started us out with a 1st and 3rd place finish

-Britt Rehrig won the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 24.58 and 54.50 respectively.

-Allie Muha had a great 200 IM with a 2:21.08, finishing 1st by only .09. This was a great complete swim with her racing until the very end!

-Kristin Taylor winning the 100 fly with a 1:02.38

-Kayla Schnars stepping up from the very beginning of her race and winning the 100 back with a time of 1:03.07

-Laura Stephens winning the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.70

-The 200 freestyle relay of Stephens, Schnars, Shannon Milstead, and Carley Nitchie finished 1st with the meet on the line with a time of 1:44.16

Our swimmers had a “Lucky Suit” (recovery) practice Saturday morning.

Very proud of how our swimmers performed, very excited to get to the Winter Training phase!

Session 5 and 6

Sorry there is only one blog post for the day, we checked out of the hotel this morning and time with the computer was limited. Haven swimming had another big day in the pool. We’re on our bus ride home after stops at Taco Bell, Wendy’s, and Sheetz.

Results for Session 5 and 6

Kayla Schnars time trialed the 100 back to get a 1:01.81 and her PSAC cut she’s been shooting for all weekend. This was the 4th (and final) time she swam the event, and it was awesome to see her achieve her goal.

Britt Rehrig set her lifetime best in the 100 free on her way to 1st place in the event with a time of 52.82 after a long weekend of great swims. Carley Nitchie finished with a 55.99 and Kristin Capretti swam a 56.45.

Shout out to Britt’s gram, who I hear is an avid reader of the blog and a constant supporter of the program!

Kristin Taylor had a great 1650 this afternoon with a time of 18:50.25. Britt Maguire had her final IUP 1650 with a time of 21:47.90.

Kayla came back tonight in the 200 backstroke with the pressure of the PSAC cut off and improved to 2:18.00. After so many high pressure situations, it was nice to see Kayla just go out and swim her race. Sometimes when you don’t have to worry about a time, that’s when it drops!

Allie Muha and Kristin Taylor were seeded 1-2 in the 200 fly and that’s where they ended up finishing! Muha was first with a 2:14.56 and Taylor topped off her meet of lifetime bests with a 2:15.70. It wasn’t noted yesterday that Kristin has found her way onto the LHU all time top 5 list in the 100 fly and is now just off in the 200.

Our 400 free relay of Nitchie, Schnars, Capretti, and Rehrig finished their 3 day meet with a 3rd place finish and a time of 3:43.65

I’ve got some work to do tomorrow on the computer getting our top 5 team records updated and will be posting them as soon as they are all done. I am so happy to see just how many parents we have supporting us through this meet. We had quite a few parents make the trip out, and quite a few that were watching at home both near and far. I am as excited as can be to be part of this team, and this productive weekend reaffirmed that. GO HAVEN

Session 4-Day 2 Finals

Some fast swims tonight with some extra PSAC qualifiers! It was a great night of racing for Haven Swimming. Lets jump into the results…

200 Medley relay of Kayla Schnars, Laura Stephens, Britt Rehrig, and Kristen Capretti  got off to a great start by taking first place with a 1:48.88, just .2 of a second off of the NCAA B cut.

Allie Muha had the challenge of just missing out on her PSAC cut in the long race of the 400 IM this morning, she stepped up and came back to swim a 4:54.87, getting her cut with a few tenths to spare!

Kristin Taylor was off of her 100 fly time this morning, but still had a great swim with 1:01.40. She placed 3rd overall in the event. Taylor Mutschler dropped even more time in the event with a 1:04.37!

The 100 breast had Ciara Conklin go just off of her morning swim with a 1:15.67, still not a bad outing, especially since she’s been fighting an injury off. Kaitlyn Druby achieved her first ever PSAC cut with a 1:11.18. Britt Rehrig bettered her NCAA B cut time to a 1:04.22.

Kayla Schnars JUST missed her cut in the 100 back with a 1:02.24. She’s got the 200 backstroke tomorrow and is looking to time trial the 100. Stay tuned!

Kristen Capretti qualified for PSACs in her 50 with a time trial time of 25.37. Carley Nitchie joined her and improved her time to 24.85.

Though there are not as many teams at the meet this year, I believe our team has benefited from shorter sessions and more opportunities to rest between those sessions. We’ve swum well, and will hopefully carry that over into tomorrow.

Delicious meal tonight from Ruby Tuesday! Thank you very much again to the Rehrigs and Conklins for taking care of the ordering portion. We as a coaching staff appreciate it, and I know the women do too!

Session 3-Day 2 Prelims

Allie Muha got us started off in day 2's prelims by just missing the PSAC cut in the 400 IM with a time of 4:56.15. She'll be seeded 4th going into tonight and is looking to have a great follow up swim!

Pretty eventful 100 fly. Emily Shultz has her best with a 1:12.89. Kaitlyn Druby and Kristin Capretti both make their 2012 Pidgeon debut with a 1:04.99 and a 1:04.19 respectively. Taylor Mutschler dropped some time on the way to a 1:05.72. Kristin Taylor got her PSAC cut with a 1:00.76 and Britt Rehrig was just off of the B cut with a 58.06. (B cut is 58.01).

Shannon Milstead had a great time of 2:02.35 in the 200 free to get her PSAC cut in the event.
The 100 breast had Amanda Thomas drop some time to finish out with 1:19.40. Ciara Conklin battled it out to get the final spot in the final with a 1:15.41. Kaitlyn Druby will be in the same heat with her, finishing up with a 1:13.42. Laura Stephens swam a PSAC qualifying time of 1:06.85. Britt Rehrig went out fast in the morning, finishing with a 1:04.65. She’ll be scratching the 100 fly to focus on going after that 100 breast.
The 100 backstroke had Brittany Maguire drop some time to end up with 1:20.74. Emily Shults had a lifetime best of 1:13.97, and Kayla Schnars narrowly missed her PSAC cut with a 1:02.60. She’s back for finals looking to give it another go.
We had Subway again for lunch (5 dollar footlongs!) and put in our order for Ruby Tuesday. Big thank you to the Rehrigs and Conklins in helping coordinating this! We have a big night of swimming ahead of us, so stay tuned to our Twitter or check out the live feed on SwimUtopia.com

Session 2 Results

An eventful day of swimming turned into an eventful night!

We started out with the 200 Free relay of Britt Rehrig, Carley Nitchie, Abby Miller, and Laura Stephens threw down a 1:39.28, which was only 1.2 seconds off of the NCAA B cut. In that race Britt swam a flat start 50 with a 24.28, achieving a B cut.

Allie Muha came back to swim the 500 freestyle and dropped a few tenths to have a final time of 5:25.64.
The 200 IM featured both Taylor Mutschler and Ciara Conklin, both of which had some pretty solid night swims that were not too far off of their morning swims.  Taylor came in with a 2:26.82 and Ciara with a 2:30.34.

The 50 free had Abby Miller (26.63), Kayla Schnars (26.44, faster than this morning, but she went a 26.01 from a flat start in the B relay this evening), Carley Nitchie (25.16) and Britt Rehrig outtouched the pack (24.29) to take 1st in the event.

We finished out with the 400 medley relay with a 2nd place finish with the team of Kayla Schnars, Laura Stephens, Britt Rehrig, and Carley Nitchie posting a 4:03.49.

Hoss’s Steak and Sea House for dinner tonight! It was speedy service with them getting 20+ meals out in record time. It was surprising that a number of our swimmers have never heard of Hoss’s. It was just one of those restaurants that I assumed were everywhere, but I guess that’s not the case. Regardless, it’s a new favorite!

Big day tomorrow morning with the prelims of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and the 800 free relay. We’re excited to keep the fast racing going. GO HAVEN
