Throw Back Thursday!

This week's Throw Back Thursday entry doesn't really need to be thrown back that far, as it is from this season. We had a very successful training trip to California, and this 3 hour practice gave not only some challenging stations, but also a chance to do something "out of the box" in the middle of the season. The trip was a bit colder than we would have liked, but the women really stepped it up on the training and made the most out of a wonderful trip west!

Another GREAT day for Haven Swimming here in California!

We started things off with our one and only practice of the day, but it was a 3 hour one where we incorporated rotating stations! Here’s the breakdown…

7 Stations, 2 times through…
1-8 minute swim oyo
2- 12 x 50 @ :40, OR 4 x 50 @ 1:30 using the parachute
3-8 x 50 AO kick @ 1:00
4-2 x 250 @ 3:45
5-4 x 125 @ 1:50- 50 build, 75 FAST
6- 8 x 25 @ 1:00 Underwater, working on turns
7- Hot tub

That’s right, the hot tub made an appearance in our set! It was well earned this week, and it was nice to see a station be REALLY looked forward to!

Afterwards, we headed to Freebirds (a personal favorite) where our very own Adam Stoner put away the legendary Super Monster with ease. This burrito is MASSIVE, and Adam really put me to shame (I just had the ‘normal’ size, I’m getting too old for that stuff!).

Immediately following our trip for burritos, we headed to explore Huntington Beach and all it has to offer. Jimmy, Adam, and I found a spot to watch the Patriots vs Texas game while the team shopped. After, we went to the beach around 4:15pm for a 5:00pm sunset. After what seemed like a thousand pictures, we had a fire and some s’mores and called it a night!

Tomorrow is our last full day here. We’re ready to go after it with full force! Stay tuned, and as always, keep following us on Facebook and Twitter!

Throw Back Thursday!

The summer months are a little quiet around The Haven. We have summer classes going on, a lot of activity on the river, and of course a Haven favorite the Ice Shack.

By all accounts, our women are hard at work with their summer workouts, and what better motivation than the past. We have an amazing set of archives on this team blog, and for the remainder of the summer we will have “Throw Back Thursday” every week. It will range from major accomplishments in the pool to some out of pool fun times. There are many moments documented here from both categories, and we’re going to get going with our first one.

First Team Activity

We recently had our first team building activity. As previously mentioned our team is full of super new faces and we (as a team & coaches) are putting an emphasis on some early team building so the women will get to know each other before the “fun” begins. (fun being practice).
The afternoon started with some free time then we proceeded to have a “cook out” complete with Kentucky Fried Chicken. After the meal we did some name game type of activities. Which included the women writing some an interesting fact about themselves on an index card, which was then collected and read allowed and the team had to guess who’s fact it was. Some of the highlights include a standing back flip, freakishly double jointed shoulders, a whitewater rafting trip and almost being arrested.

The evening concluded with an old fashion egg toss…good stuff.
