Still Getting After It In The Cold!

California has been sunny, but not so warm. Morning practices have been in the lower 40s and until the sun comes out you can really feel the bitter cold.

The cool thing about the blog is that it is a working history of this team. This isn’t the first time that we’ve had bad weather on a training trip. Our seniors will remember their first trip to Cocoa Beach…

But just like then, we’ve remained positive…

Despite the weather, we’re working hard and doing what we came to California for. The women are a small (but mighty) group that is going through the hardest phase of the season in a place they thought would be warm, but isn’t. Its hard to fight adversity, but that’s what athletes do, and they’re better off because of it.

We’ve been breaking off into groups in the morning, this was this morning’s distance practice.

8 x 1000
1.       Warm Up, every 4th kick
2.       10 x 100 @ 1:30 pace 1:20
3.       8 x 125 @ 1:50 100 build 25 AO
4.       5 x 200 @ 3:00 breathe every 3/5/7 by 50
5.       4 x 250 @ 3:45 train style
6.       2 x 500 @ 7:30 make it
7.       1000 @ 14:00 for time
8.       500 fast @ 7:00, 500 WD

3 more swimming practices while here, and one intense dryland later today! GO HAVEN!

Haven Swimming is Back to Work

After a full day of traveling yesterday, we are officially to work!

Practice this morning consisted of breaking down into specific groups, Distance, Sprint, and Stroke. All three groups had a pretty decent practice to break the ice, and after a brutal pre training trip training camp in Lock Haven, I am excited to see what they can do here!

Winter Training isn’t easy by any means, but it gets a little easier knowing you’re in a great and unique place. Chapman University is beautiful and we are so happy that they are hosting us during this trip. The women on this team know that the work done here translates to their taper meet, so its all worth it.

Our upcoming practice schedule
1/8- 7-9am, 2-4pm
1/9- 7-9am, 2-4pm
1/10- Off, Trip to Universal
1/11- 7-9am, Meet vs Chapman and Soka
1/12-7-9am, 2-4pm (Dryland)
1/13- 9am-12 noon
1/14- 7-9am, 2-4pm

We’re headed to the beach tonight after practice, bring on the sunsets!

No Lane Lines...And the Beginning of Winter Training!

Friday the ladies heard the three best possible words in the English language when it comes to being a swimmer at Lock Haven…”No Lane Lines”

Winter training is by far the hardest part of the season, and before we kicked it off we finished out finals week with an “hour of power”, where the women tread for a constant hour.

During that time, we had them pass around full jugs of water as a team. If they dropped it, it meant an all out 50 (without touching the sides). After a few 50s, it was very positive to see the team work together and accomplish the task without dropping it, even with 4 going at the same time.

Saturday morning was the kickoff of the most intense training phase of the season, with an hour dryland and a two hour practice. Its exciting to see our swimmers step up to the challenge and push themselves, and even more exciting to know that it is all for getting to that desired results at the end of the season!

 GO HAVEN!

SAAC Participate in Toy Drive

The Lock Haven University SAAC got into the holiday spirit by participating this year in the annual Mark the Shark Toy Drive! Haven Athletes from all sports made a donation to the campaign that will benefit children in the Central Pennsylvania area. The crew from 92.1 were there to accept the donation and did an on the air segment with our athletes.

Saturday Morning Practice

Great morning workout this morning for our women! They got things going with an hour of dryland going through three different circuits involving core, stretch cords, and everyone’s favorite…squat jumps!

After that, the women broke off into their groups, but with a half hour to go in practice they all came together to do the final set as a TEAM (even with all the planks and wall sits they had to do). This upcoming week is finals (light practices all week) and then its winter training kickoff! Today was  a great way to finish a great week of practices! GO HAVEN!
